BRIDGEPORT, W.V. – Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) CEO and President Arria Hines served as a panelist at the West Virginia Legislators’ Forum on Education & the Economy. This two-day event was held to increase knowledge of educational issues and innovative ways to create a powerful workforce. Legislative members from the West Virginia Senate and House of Delegates were invited to attend.

During her session entitled ‘Moving West Virginia Forward: Building Tomorrow’s Workforce’, Hines spoke about ways AST responds to the changing workforce demands. She also discussed the importance of developing industry and educational partnerships to help strengthen the future workforce.

“As technology advances and times change, our workforce needs to adapt to these critical new career paths,” said Hines. “It is great to see so many people involved in these types of conversations. It not only prepares our future workforce, but it allows our existing workers to gain preparedness and better job opportunities which ultimately provides a much larger hiring pool for this area.”

The session was moderated by Dr. Johnny Moore, President, Pierpont Community & Technical College. Other panelists included Lee Farabaugh, COO, Core 10 and Lauren Sisneros, Policy Analyst, Education Commission of the States.

“Our legislators are on the front lines of our efforts to move West Virginia forward, so it is critical to engage them in non-partisan discussions on how to address the most pressing issues facing public education and our economy today,” said Peduto. “This is a truly an invaluable opportunity for our legislators to hear from executives and industry experts such as Arria Hines of AST”
