Washington, D.C. – Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) CEO and President Arria Hines has been named the winner of the 2017 “Innovator of the Year” Award by Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a national nonpartisan organization that educates and advocates on behalf of women-owned businesses The Innovator of the Year Award recognizes a WIPP member who has effectively leveraged technology for innovation and success in business.

“I am very excited to receive the 2017 ‘Innovator of the Year’ Award,” said Ms. Hines at the WIPP National Leadership Conference Awards Dinner held Oct. 3rd, 2017 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. “I am also very honored to be involved with an organization that gives women business owners such a special platform that allows policymakers, experts, and the media to hear what we need to thrive in today’s business world.”

The “Innovator of the Year” Award It is one of a series of WIPP annual awards intended to shine a spotlight on female entrepreneurs dedicated to the advancement of women in business. These awards are in keeping with WIPP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the impact of women on our nation’s public policy, to create economic opportunities, and forge alliances with other business organizations.

Ms. Hines is an inspiring example for women CEOs throughout the country. An accounting by training who began her entrepreneurial journey over 25 years ago, she co-founded AST in 2009 as a two-person company with a single government contract. Over the next eight years, she transformed AST into one of the country’s fastest-growing, privately-held technology and engineering management companies.

With projected 2017 revenue of $50 million, AST today has nearly 240 employees across seven states and the District of Columbia and holds approximately 15 contracts with multiple federal agencies in areas of advanced and clean energy, national defense, and intelligence.

A lifelong resident of West Virginia, Ms. Hines was named the Small Business Administration (SBA) West Virginia Small Business Person of the Year for 2016 as well as the “2017 Outstanding Woman in Technology” by TechConnect WV. She is a dedicated contributor to the communities in which she resides and serves – giving back with every opportunity and supporting small businesses in West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
