TASC AND ALLEGHENY SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY NAMED 2014 NUNN-PERRY AWARD WINNERS

Successful mentor-protégé development and superb DIA and DoD support drive award selection

February 17, 2015

Bridgeport, WV – TASC and Allegheny Science & Technology Corporation (AST) have been selected to receive the Department of Defense’s 2014 Nunn-Perry Award based on their performance as participants in the Department of Defense (DoD) Mentor-Protege Program (MPP). The two companies began collaborating over two years ago and have jointly supported multiple efforts across the Defense Intelligence Agency and the DoD. During that time, AST has strengthened its technical merit and sustainability as a defense contractor and government support services provider with TASC’s guidance and sharing of technical capabilities and methodologies.

The prestigious Nunn-Perry Award, named in honor of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, was first awarded in 1995 to recognize outstanding mentor-protégé teams formed under the auspices of the MPP.

Kenyata Wesley, deputy director for technology and innovation, DoD OSBP, said, “The Nunn-Perry Awards honor mentor-protégé teams that have excelled in the areas of technical assistance, return on investment, quality and protégé development. Competition is keen every year, and this year was no exception. The TASC-AST team is being recognized for this prestigious award based on their superb performance.”

Arria Hines, president and CEO, Allegheny Science & Technology, said, “AST is both humbled and proud to receive this award. Through the Mentor-Protégé Program, TASC and AST have become trusted partners, each fulfilling an important need for the other. As mentor, TASC has shared its invaluable resources, bandwidth and experience. AST, as protégé, has served as a “go to” small business TASC can count on when pursuing larger business opportunities. The trust that underpins our relationship is the key reason for the team’s many business successes.”

John P. Hynes Jr., president and CEO, TASC, said, “TASC is honored to receive the Nunn-Perry award with Allegheny Science & Technology. It is one of the most prestigious awards the DoD bestows, and one that shines a spotlight on an aspect of our business of which we are justifiably proud. TASC possesses a long history of promoting small businesses and shepherding their development. We see stewardship as a key corporate mission that not only benefits us, but also the federal and commercial marketplace as a whole.”

Hynes continued, “TASC and AST are partners in the truest sense of the word. We are proud of AST’s accomplishments to date and will continue to support its ongoing efforts as a competitive small business prime contractor in the defense intelligence and federal civilian sectors.”
